Minnesota Unemployment Insurance – Where to Send Payment

2

If you’re an employer like me and have the unfortunate duty to use Minnesota’s unemployment insurance website http://www.uimn.org/ you may get very frustrated with their site very quickly as I did.  Apparently there is a way to pay them with an electronic check as they say just “log into your account” as if it should be obvious.  Well, it’s not and I can’t find it.  They’ll tell you how much you owe after reporting your taxes and wages, but if you forget and attempt to go back and look, it’ll cost you $25.  There is no place on the website that states their mailing address so you can send in a payment.

Finally… I received a piece of mail stating that my payment to this unknown office was late.  In case you’re wondering, send payment to Minnesota Unemployment Fund at:

Minnesota UI

PO Box 64621

St. Paul, MN 55164-0621

Be sure to include your MN UI employer account number with payment.

Also, nobody responds if you contact them through the website. Their FAQ’s are out of date – two of the hyperlinks referenced no longer existed. There is no way to cancel my account from their website, even though it says you can on a mystery page. I can’t believe people put up with these government websites.

Did you ever figure out a way to cancel your account? I want to cancel mine and didn’t find anything on the site either. Grrr…

Nick – a great post. Yes, the unemployment tax system is far more complicated than it needs to be. It sounds like you have a good grasp on their payment system. I wish you the very best!
